Yves Betschmann Goldschmied

Where the site falls short

Two things worth flagging honestly. First, this is a German-only site: there is no English toggle and no line stating that consultations run in English, so a newcomer to Zürich should plan to email ahead in English and confirm before assuming the conversation itself will run comfortably in anything but German. Second, while the watch buy-back page is unusually transparent about its pricing basis, nothing on the site publishes prices, lead times or resizing terms for a custom ring or wedding band commission, so budget and turnaround are a first-appointment question rather than something checkable in advance. The site's own press page lists three mentions, a newspaper interview, a feature in the magazine Schweizer Familie, and a design credit for the main prize at a Zürich fashion night, all dated in 2015, which suggests that particular page has not been refreshed in a while even though the business itself plainly has not slowed down: independent directory listings for the same address and phone number, checked in mid-2026, still show it operating under Betschmann's own name.

For a newcomer to Zürich, the appeal here is less about the ring gallery, which is comparable to others on this list, and more about the combination on offer: a single-owner workshop where the person who might design your engagement ring will also weigh, authenticate and make a same-day cash or transfer offer on a watch or a piece of family jewelry you no longer wear. Between the credential (a working gemologist trained in Idar-Oberstein), the tenure at one old-town address since 2008, and a buy-back arm that actually states its numbers, this is a solid pick for anyone whose Zürich plans involve both acquiring something new and converting something old.
