Cartier was founded in Paris in 1847 and its engagement offer is built around several named settings. The Solitaire 1895 is the plainest, a single stone raised in claws, while Cartier Destinee, Etincelle, Ballerine and the heritage-leaning Vendome Louis Cartier give different takes on the diamond mount. The house also keeps the LOVE and Trinity codes in its bridal range, so the rings are not limited to one classic shape.
Stones run from brilliant cut through emerald, oval, pear and cushion cuts, with platinum and white, yellow and rose gold for the bands, and coloured stones such as emeralds, rubies and sapphires available. Cartier says every ring is set by hand in its ateliers. For couples who want to start from the stone, the Set For You service lets you choose a diamond and a setting separately and combine them. Consultations are offered through the boutiques, and the Zurich address is Bahnhofstrasse 47.
